Filipino Culture

A Culture That Reflects Other Cultures

Come to think of it, Filipino culture has been known due to its native yet diverse charactersistic. Looking back, Spaniards reigned the Philippines for 333 years. With that time, it is obvious that Spanish men influenced us Filipinos the culture and tradition of our own. I remember my grandfather saying some things that I really don't understand, only to find out that those were Spanish words. Another thing, whenever we rode jeepneys (which are the national public mode vehicles in the Philippines) and we want to get off the said vehicle, we always say the word "para," only later I realized that it is the Spanish word for "stop." A lot of houses were in congruence with the architectural style of that Spanish's. It's pretty funny when my sister was watching Dora the Explorer on tv, I heard Dora said the word "asul" which she refers to the blue object. This prompt me to research some other Spanish words that we Filipinos use too.

Hey Americans, did you know that you colonize us too? hehe.. That's why our races come from brown to white. The most significant influence you brought to us is your education and your language. The Spaniards didn't taught us Spanish because they were the ones who learned our native language. Spaniards also didn't provide us education because they only educate Spanish children and Spanish-Filipino children. Up to now, Philippines is considered the third world's largest english speaking country.

Japanese were the third group who colonize us and their goods were their prime influence. Many Filipinos still have Japanese stuff in their houses.

Philippines makes you feel at home. Wherever you came from, Philippines just gives that atmosphere that you are in your home country.
